Plot summary
In 1963, drought grips Gatlin, Nebraska. A boy preacher tells the town's children that a god called He Who Walks Behind the Rows has spoken to him in dreams and that the adults are to blame. The children form a cult and kill everyone over twenty. Years later, Burt, a Vietnam veteran, and his wife Vicky drive through rural Nebraska on a second honeymoon to repair their marriage. A boy, Joseph, runs from the cornfields into their car, his throat cut beforehand. Burt takes the body and drives to Gatlin, where Isaac Chroner leads the cult.

- Donald P. Borchers used Stephen King's unused script for the 1984 film as the template for his remake, but King's attorney wrote that King wanted no part in it. Borchers later sent King a DVD, and King watched the film and approved his screenwriting credit.
- Unlike the 1984 original, where the bulk of the cultists were played by actors over eighteen, Donald P. Borchers cast age-appropriate actors for his remake, and said dealing with the largely underage cast was the most difficult part of making the film.
