Plot summary
In the late 1980s, Saúl Armendáriz, a gay man, lives with his mother in El Paso, Texas, and regularly crosses the border to take part in professional wrestling matches in Ciudad Juárez. He performs under the name El Topo. A trainer named Sabrina takes him on and steers him toward the exótico role, coaching him to win in it. From that role he develops the character Cassandro, billed as the Liberace of Lucha Libre, and starts to make a name for himself in lucha libre. He also confronts elements of his own identity and explores the personal relationships in his life.
