Plot summary
Lorraine Burton is divorced and insecure, bringing up her seven-year-old son Chad by herself with little money. Her former husband Gary, a soldier who was court-martialed, keeps urging her to let the boy live with him. Lorraine attends therapy sessions. On one errand she parks at a gas station to pick up frozen pizzas for Chad and herself. While she is inside, Roy, who has just robbed a bank, takes over her car with her and the boy in it and sets off for Tijuana, Mexico. He means to keep them with him, and Lorraine works to shield Chad from him during the drive.
