Michael Arata
Biography
Michael Arata is an American actor and film producer. Born in New Orleans, he began acting at age four and later appeared on stage, in feature films, and on television. He has worked with Academy Award winners including Denzel Washington and Sissy Spacek, and has shared the stage with Kenneth Branagh, Ben Kingsley, Rosemary Harris, and with Alec Baldwin and Elizabeth Ashley in Tennessee Williams's The Night of the Iguana. In 1997 he played Stanley Kowalski in a 50th anniversary production of A Streetcar Named Desire, earning praise from American Theatre Magazine and reviewer Dalt Wonk. Arata began producing films in 1989 with the short Looking For Someone, which won the Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Short at the Utah Short Film Festival. He later produced features such as Deal, Night of the Demons (2009), and The Courier (2012), and was the youngest chairman of Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre.

Behind the camera
Michael Arata's first short film, "Looking For Someone," marked the start of his producing career in 1989. It earned the Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Short at the Utah Short Film Festival.
A first
In 2006, after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, Arata produced "Deal," the city's first independent feature film. He later produced "New Orleans Mon Amour," "Pool Boy" and "Autopsy."
Beyond film
Arata staged Shakespeare in New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina, in City Park, which he called the city's only outdoor theater, and also worked on productions with the Tennessee Williams Literary Festival.
