Plot summary
An old house stands locked from the inside, every window shut. When the police force the door, they find no living person and no body, only loose papers bearing abstract phrases and pictures, each signed 'Capital I.' The police close the case, since it affects no one, but the media turns the signature into a rumor and the name spreads through the town. Piyali, a student of psychology, takes up the question of who or what Capital I might be with her former physics professor, Misra. Together they examine the name, the phrases and the pictures. Piyali is not satisfied with her submissive boyfriend, who lives in Delhi, and she finds herself caught between that relationship and a strange bond with a hallucinatory lesbian partner.
