Plot summary
The strongest of the revolutionary bands raiding towns on both sides of the border in 1912 answers to Héctor Córdoba, a former army general. A surprise attack leaves six cannons with his men, and the government hands the problem to General John J. Pershing, who is to make sure the cannons are never turned on American towns. Pershing asks Captain Rod Douglas to assemble a team and lead it into Córdoba's territory. Douglas's first recruit is Jackson Harkness, a soldier who was beside him undercover among the revolutionaries and who holds a grudge against him over his brother's death. Two men just out of the army jail, Andy Rice and Peter, come next, and a Mexican lieutenant, Antonio Gutierrez, asks to join, saying that a woman he knows, Leonora Cristobal, wants Córdoba dead.
