Plot summary
Rainbow Randolph Smiley is the costumed host of a hit children's show on the KidNet network, a friendly onscreen figure whose private life is alcoholic, unstable and criminal. FBI agents arrest him at Patsy's Warehouse for accepting bribes, the show is canceled, and he loses his penthouse and ends up homeless. The network chairman orders a replacement with a spotless public image, and executive Marion Stokes chooses Sheldon Mopes, a sincere performer who promotes positivity and healthy living as Smoochy the Rhino. Sheldon opposes merchandising and argues with Nora Wells, the network's vice president of development, who produces Smoochy's Magic Jungle.
