Plot summary
Stet Tate is a disruptive boy in a small Texas town who gets in trouble but has a natural feel for music. His mother, who struggles with drink, dies in a car crash, and the father he has never lived with enrolls him at an elite music boarding school, paying generously to keep the boy's existence hidden from his wife and two daughters. Stet arrives among privileged pupils; he cannot read music and some of the staff find his behavior a problem. Carvelle, who leads the choir, hears in the boy's voice something worth the trouble. Stet works at theory and technique, and he clashes with Devon, another pupil.

- Alfred Molina was originally to appear in Boychoir but left the project, and Eddie Izzard replaced him as Drake, the choir master's right-hand at the school, joining Debra Winger, Kevin McHale, Josh Lucas and newcomers Garrett Wareing, Joe West, River Alexander and Grant Venable in the cast in February 2014.
