Plot summary
A ruby from 12th century India carries a blessing and a curse from the blood of Princess Lafla, and the British take it in the 18th century. In the present day, the crook Paul Lorre steals it and tries to sell it to Ludwig Van Hoeven, an international fence. Authorities close in, so Lorre hides the gem in the bags of Sandy and Stephanie McVey, newlyweds from America traveling in India. Van Hoeven's men seize Stephanie, leaving Sandy and taxi driver Shyam Sabu to find her.

- Bloodstone is notable for being the only foreign film of the Indian actor Rajinikanth, making it a one-off in the career of the Indian screen star.
- Director Dwight Little said Bloodstone had a thirty-five day schedule, but he was still filming on day seventy-eight, more than double the planned shoot.
- After a rough cut was finished, director Dwight Little and producer Nico Mastorakis had creative differences; Mastorakis finalised the film and Little was not involved in the final cut.
- Brett Stimely and Anna Nicholas were cast because Mastorakis had insufficient budget to hire SAG actors; Little admitted that having non-union actors play the lead was asking too much.
