Plot summary
Xander DeWitt has a talent for solving mysteries, but the one that matters most is the disappearance of his father Russell, who left for work three months ago and never came back. Xander's own attempts to find him have landed him in trouble with the police, so his mother Ellen sends him to Bixler Valley, his father's hometown, to stay with his grandfather Charlie, a retired private investigator. While staying with Charlie, Xander comes across a surprising lead in the case. At Bixler Valley High, his classmate Kenzie Messina reports for the school newspaper, and she teams up with him to follow it.
