Benji the Hunted (1987) on Netflix

Plot summary

Benji goes missing while filming in Oregon. A storm capsizes the fishing boat he was aboard in the Pacific, and his trainer tells a reporter he fears the dog is dead, though a helicopter search is planned. Benji comes ashore in the wilderness, where the helicopter passes overhead without spotting him. He watches a hunter shoot a female cougar, and when he finds her four cubs he takes charge of them, taking a pheasant from the hunter's cabin to feed them. A black wolf and a grizzly bear share the woods, and Benji tries to lead the cubs to another cougar that has a cub of her own.
