Plot summary
In northern Spain in 1965, the village of Marienbad is emptied so a dam can flood the valley. Two boys, Teo and Luis, slip past the security boundary into the deserted streets, and in the abandoned church Teo hears voices. In a flooded basement they find chained prisoners, including the leader Mordecai Salas, and Teo sets him free. Forty years later, during the celebration of the dam's anniversary, the teenager Antonio goes missing in the reservoir while swimming, with Susana, his girlfriend, and Clara Borgia nearby. Divers search the water without finding him. Dan Quarry, a cameraman journalist filming the submerged village, works with Teresa Borgia, a local reporter whose father built the dam, as unsettling events take place at the reservoir.
