Plot summary
Charlie Logan is waiting when Ben Bellew walks out of prison after a three-year sentence. Charlie has not come to greet him; he tells Ben plainly that he wants nothing more to do with him. The two are old companions and bitter enemies. Charlie is an adventurer who gets by as a card cheat. The pair make common cause, and the problems begin soon after. Sarah, Alan Smith, the Pinkerton detective Hawkins and Sheriff Walkers are among the people around them. The two men keep being thrown back together, and they rob a bank side by side.
