Plot summary
Daphne Wilder is the overbearing mother of three daughters: Maggie, a psychologist; Mae, who is married; and the youngest, Milly, who has just broken up with her boyfriend. Worried that Milly will repeat her own mistakes, Daphne takes matters into her own hands and places an online personal ad in Milly's name without telling her. She picks out a candidate, Jason Grant, and sets about arranging a chance meeting between him and her daughter. Milly has ideas of her own and begins seeing a guitarist, Johnny Dresden, whom Daphne had already turned down. Milly has no idea about the ad, and neither man knows about the other.
