Plot summary
The documentary traces how American venture capitalism took shape in the middle of the twentieth century, when investors began working with entrepreneurs to start and build companies before the term had been coined. The businesses they backed include Apple, Intel, Genentech, Cisco, Atari, Tandem and others. Those companies led to the birth of biotechnology and to the growth of microprocessors, personal computers and the web. Venture capitalists and the entrepreneurs they worked with, active in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, appear in interviews, accompanied by archival photographs and footage. The full-length independent film also considers the influence of Georges Doriot and the ups and downs of building these companies.
