Plot summary
Robert Shafran arrives at Sullivan County Community College in 1980, where students and staff greet him as Eddy Galland, a young man who studied there a year earlier. The two meet that evening, learn that both were adopted, and take themselves for twins. When the story reaches the newspapers, David Kellman recognizes the photographs and matches the circumstances, and the three find they are identical triplets. Media appearances follow, along with a restaurant the brothers run together, while three adoptive families, from working-class, middle-class and affluent households, ask the Louise Wise agency how the boys came to be separated. The agency answers that placing triplets in one home was difficult.

- Co-producer Grace Hughes-Hallett pitched Three Identical Strangers to Raw TV in 2013 and was the documentary's original director; she was later removed from the position, and has said she was a young woman at the time.
