Plot summary
In the year 3000, the Psychlos rule Earth, mining its resources and working the surviving humans as slaves. Jonnie Goodboy Tyler lives with cave-dwellers in the Rocky Mountains who fear the demons said to rule the world; he doubts the stories and rides into the lowlands, where he meets the hunters Carlo and Rock, who show him an overgrown city. Psychlos capture him there and take him to a base amid the ruins of Denver, sheltered by an enormous dome of air they can breathe. His resourcefulness wins the respect of the other slaves and the interest of Terl, the Earth security chief, whose assignment on the planet is extended as punishment; with his assistant Ker, he plans to train humans to mine gold in an area whose radiation would destroy Psychlos.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Battlefield Earth (2000)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- A Los Angeles jury heard that Franchise Pictures had told financier Intertainment AG the film cost $75 million to make, when the studio's own bank records showed the real production cost was $44 million, with the remaining $31 million being fraudulent padding.
- Intertainment won its fraud lawsuit and was awarded $121.7 million in damages, with producer Elie Samaha personally held liable for $77 million, a judgment that pushed Franchise Pictures into bankruptcy in August 2004.
- Director Roger Christian was recruited only after Quentin Tarantino turned down the job; Christian, a George Lucas protege, had most recently been second unit director on Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.
- The film tied Showgirls' 1995 record of seven Razzie wins, then took an eighth for "Worst Drama of Our First 25 Years" and a ninth in 2010 for "Worst Picture of the Decade", a record for a single film until Jack and Jill won ten in 2012.
- John Travolta originally saw himself in the role of Jonnie, but by the time the movie was actually made he felt he was too old to play the heroic role and took the role of the main villain instead.
- Director Roger Christian shot almost every scene at a Dutch angle because he wanted Battlefield Earth to look like a comic book.
