Plot summary
A young pilot has only just finished his training and is called to join a Flight. The men of the unit are waiting for the order to scramble, and the day is seen through his eyes. Across a single day the skies over southern England are filled with deadly dogfights, and after every exhausting battle the pilots come back to their dispersal hut to find that another of their number is missing. Unwilling to surrender, he and his comrades take to the air once more, determined to defend the airfield and, beyond it, the whole of their country.
