Plot summary
Deaths in a small Texas town called Gallup are blamed on bats, so the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention interrupts Dr. Sheila Casper's field research in Arizona and sends the chiropterologist and Jimmy Sands, her assistant, to look into the attacks. Dr. Alexander McCabe, secretive about the animals, acknowledges that he altered them to be more intelligent and omnivorous so the species would no longer face extinction. Sheila, Sheriff Emmett Kimsey and CDC specialist Dr. Tobe Hodge search for the roost. On their first night out the bats swarm them; the group captures one, fits it with a tracking device and releases it.
