Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- A planned sequel, Deep Water, about a plane flying from China to Australia that crashes in the Pacific, was scrapped in 2014 because of "uncomfortable similarities" to the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.
- Three animatronic sharks were used to film the sharks, and although director Rendall wanted to avoid computer-generated imagery entirely, the budget meant some scenes had to use it.
