Plot summary
The documentary follows the career of rock musician Joan Jett, beginning with the Runaways, the band she founds and plays in onstage. It moves through her long collaboration with songwriter and producer Kenny Laguna, with whom she creates Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and launches the label Blackheart Records. Her singles, among them I Love Rock n Roll and Bad Reputation, reached young women and encouraged a generation to take up rock music. A companion soundtrack gathers seventeen tracks from across her career. The film also covers her standing as a rock pioneer and her role as a mentor to other performers.
