Plot summary
Verona De Tessant is six months pregnant and lives with Burt Farlander near Denver. Burt has long wanted to marry her, but Verona sees no point in the institution, and her own parents died more than ten years earlier. The couple moved to Colorado to be near Burt's mother and father, Gloria and Jerry Farlander, so the baby would know its grandparents. Gloria and Jerry then announce they are leaving for Antwerp, Belgium, a month ahead of the due date, and have already rented out their home. Both Burt and Verona can work from home and settle wherever they choose, so they set off to visit friends and relatives, most of them married with children, to see where they want to live and who they want around their family.
