Plot summary
Jake Sully, once a human and now Na'vi, led the fight that drove the RDA off Pandora. He and his wife Neytiri are grieving their eldest son, Neteyam, and staying with the Metkayina reef clan, where Neytiri's hatred of humans deepens. Spider, the human boy they adopted, cannot breathe Pandora's air without a mask. When its power fails while he sleeps, Jake and Neytiri decide the boy must return to the human scientist camp, and the family travels with him on a fleet of flying merchant ships. Mangkwan raiders, an aggressive Na'vi clan, ambush the convoy. Their matriarch Varang leads the assault; the raiders loot the ships and set them on fire, killing many and scattering the Sullys.

- After the 2022 Uvalde school shooting, James Cameron rewrote parts of Fire and Ash to avoid glorifying gun violence, changing a script in which the Metkayina clan had planned to use guns to defend the Tulkun so that the clan instead rejects firearms entirely.
- When filming resumed in New Zealand during the pandemic, all 55 crew members who traveled there had to complete a two-week government-supervised isolation period in a Wellington hotel first, making Fire and Ash and The Way of Water the first major Hollywood blockbusters to resume production after a COVID-19 shutdown.
- The film's Hong Kong release was pushed back to January 2026 because of the Wang Fuk Court fire, making it the last territory in the world to get the film, and its subtitle Fire and Ash was dropped there to avoid insensitivity.
- The film's Australian premiere, originally scheduled to be held on December 15, 2025, ended up being canceled entirely in the wake of the 2025 Bondi Beach shooting.
