Biography

Rick Vallin was a Russian-born actor whose career included more than 150 films from 1938 to 1966. After stage work with the Hollytown Theater in 1940, he made an uncredited appearance in Freshman Year and took minor roles at various studios. He joined the Pasadena Playhouse in 1942 and earned his first co-starring part opposite Sidney Blackmer in The Panther's Claw. In 1943 he was cast as the villain in an East Side Kids farce titled Clancy Street Boys. Producer Sam Katzman featured him as a youthful lead in Ghosts on the Loose (1943) and gave him the lead in Smart Guy, his only starring film. Katzman moved to Columbia and brought Vallin along, giving him over ten years of steady work in low-budget B movies and serials, often as reporters, villains, and natives. He also narrated coming-attractions trailers and guest-starred on The Lone Ranger, The Adventures of Superman, and Daniel Boone, his last TV role in 1966.
