Plot summary
Antoine Doinel is seventeen. After a youth of delinquency, he has been given the chance to leave that life behind and now holds a job at Philips, the record company. He lives by himself in a furnished room at Place Clichy and listens to opera and classical music, and he spends time with René, a friend from his school days. The two attend a Berlioz Music Programme, where Antoine spots Colette, a secondary school student he has noticed at earlier concerts. It is his first love. Colette is his own age but, unlike him, lives with a warm, supportive family.
