Plot summary
Eddie Dash is a con man serving community service for past crimes, and he picks the easiest assignment he can: keeping company with George, a mental patient who has spent three years in a sanitarium and is now adjusting to life outside. George decides Eddie is his best friend. Eddie tries to leave him at a museum, but George panics and runs out, colliding with Al Sandro, who mistakes him for Abe Fielding, a millionaire brewery heir gone five months. Al sets up a meeting at a café to pay a debt he owes Abe. Eddie sees the opportunity and talks George into playing the part. At the café, the staff and other patrons also take George for Abe, so he has to keep the deception going.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Another You (1991)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Peter Bogdanovich was the original director but was replaced after five weeks of shooting in New York; on the last night of location filming he received a phone call from his agent near midnight letting him know, and it was then determined that none of the New York footage was usable.
- Gottfried was cast in the Bogdanovich version of the film but was dropped when it was reshot, and also among Bogdanovich's unused, and presumably lost, footage was a cameo featuring Donald Trump.
- Bogdanovich claimed the film had been greenlit only because he had gotten Pryor involved, the studio apparently not wanting Wilder to star alone, but he believed it was Wilder who successfully campaigned to have him replaced with another director.
