Plot summary
Lizzie lost her newborn daughter Rosie in a hospital fire that killed twelve other mothers and babies. Seven years on, she is working through her grief while raising her son, Thomas, whom she shares custody of with her ex-husband, Mike. At a birthday party for one of Thomas's friends, she spots a little girl and becomes convinced the child is Rosie. She pretends to want the house the girl's parents, Claire and Bernard, have put up for sale, and the two families' sons become friends. The girl is called Lola. Lizzie loses her grip on reality as she looks for chances to be alone with Lola. Her obsession costs her the job and she forgets to fetch Thomas. Her parents and her therapist confront her at home with Mike, who threatens to take Thomas away unless she gets help.
