Plot summary
Jim Levenstein, Chris "Oz" Ostreicher, Paul Finch and Kevin Myers are four friends nearing graduation at East Great Falls High School in Michigan, none of them sexually experienced. After a dorky classmate claims he has lost his virginity, they agree on a pact at a party hosted by Steve Stifler: each will lose his virginity by prom night, three weeks away. Kevin looks for the right moment with his girlfriend Vicky, who wants to wait; Finch pays Jessica to spread stories about his prowess; Oz joins the choir to meet girls. Jim's own attempts, including one involving a warm apple pie, keep ending in embarrassment.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about American Pie (1999)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The script was first called Untitled Teenage Sex Comedy That Can Be Made For Under $10 Million That Most Readers Will Probably Hate But I Think You Will Love, and it sparked a bidding war among studios that Universal Pictures won for $750,000 in 1998.
- Universal wanted Jonathan Taylor Thomas for the role of Jim Levenstein, but he turned it down, and Bill Murray was considered for Jim's dad, Noah Levenstein, before Eugene Levy took the part.
- Blink-182 members Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus both auditioned for the role of Stifler, according to the book Fahrenheit-182, but it ultimately went to Seann William Scott.
- The film was shot under the title Great Falls and changed to American Pie after a negative test screening reaction to that name, even though Universal had repeatedly turned the American Pie title down until late in production.
- The film's use of the term MILF, applied to Stifler's mom, played by Jennifer Coolidge, helped popularize the word and introduce it to a mainstream audience.
- The picture originally received an NC-17 rating from the Motion Picture Association of America, and edits had to be made to bring it down to the R rating it was released with.
