Plot summary
Johnny, an Italian-American who grew up in Alphabet City, collects for the Mafia in New York. The organization has handed him control of its business in his own neighborhood: drug dealing, protection money, debts, street taxes and kick-ups from local gangsters. That evening he talks with Lippy, a cocaine dealer of eccentric habits, about a tenement building the Mafia wants torched. The building is where Johnny's mother and sister live, and the job is his to carry out before the night is over. The order pushes Johnny to look for a way out of the organization, which is not easy.
