Plot summary
Edward Carnby, a paranormal investigator, comes back from South America with one piece of an Abkani puzzle. He takes it to the museum where Aline Cedrac, his girlfriend, serves as assistant curator, and she shows him a second Abkani piece that arrived during Hudgens' absence. A stranger with supernatural strength accosts Carnby. Offshore, a crew raises a gold coffin from the seabed; once docked, the captain shuts Hudgens away while the crew pries the coffin open. After a piercing screech, several people in the western United States and Canada walk off into the night, and Bureau 713, Carnby's former employer, detects electromagnetic waves. Carnby suspects the Abkani are connected, and that evening a creature stalks the museum.
