Plot summary
Ali is the eldest son of Sheik Mahdi, an Iraqi Shia cleric, and music is his talent. He loves Dianne, an Australian-born Lebanese young woman, and wants a life with her. His father, though, has promised him to another family's daughter. The people around the mosque expect Ali to become a doctor, and his marks do not get him there, while what he wants above all is his father's pride. To seem to meet those expectations, he invents academic results, and the lie grows past his control. The arranged marriage is still ahead of him, and he is expected to go through with it.
