Biography

Homayoun Ershadi was an Iranian actor who trained as an architect and worked in that field before he turned to performing. Born in Isfahan in 1947, he spent part of his youth in Karaj and Abadan, then studied at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, graduating in 1970. His screen career started after he returned to Iran and settled in Tehran, where the director Abbas Kiarostami approached him in traffic and offered him the leading part in Taste of Cherry (1997). That debut role made his name, and he went on to appear in Iranian productions and in films made abroad, among them The Kite Runner (2007), Agora (2009) and Zero Dark Thirty. In 2017 he received a Sepanta Award for best actor in a short film for Blue Lantern. He died in 2025.
