Plot summary
Reagan Wills, thirteen, wants to play soccer the way her hero Alex Morgan does. At home her parents are busy with college recruiting visits for her older brother Logan, a football player at his high school. Riding her bike to the Crush tryout, the top girls soccer club in the state, she breaks the chain and arrives late. The coach cuts her, and Claire, a Crush striker, humiliates her. Other clubs have no openings. Taking her Alex Morgan poster down, she topples from a chair and strikes her head. Regaining consciousness, she finds Alex Morgan in the room, visible to Reagan alone. They train together, and Ben tells her about the Breakaways, a club of players the Crush rejected.
