Plot summary
John Harrison coaches basketball at Brookshire Christian School, where his son Ethan plays and his wife Amy teaches. When the town's manufacturing plant moves away, families follow the jobs, and John's players and colleagues leave. Principal Olivia Brooks asks him to keep the cross country program alive, and he protests, saying he does not like cross country or consider it a real sport. Only one student comes to tryouts: Hannah Scott, an asthmatic girl who lives with Barbara Scott, her grandmother, and who has been taking things that belong to other students. Hospital visits for his pastor bring John to the room of Thomas Hill, a blind former cross country runner who invites him to return.
