Plot summary
Six years after a solar flare devastates the Earth, Jake works for August Valentine, who calls himself the King of England. Jake recovers objects that predate the flare for powerful clients, and Valentine funds the repairs to a boat Jake hopes to live on. Valentine asks him to travel into France for the Mona Lisa, offering to have his own men finish a job Jake is reluctant to take. Drea, part of a rebellion against the warlord General Volkov, goes with him.

- In May 2025 an arbitrator awarded Fourth Chance Productions $7.7 million after a backer of Afterburn, who had committed $7.5 million for an executive producer credit, was found to have defrauded the company and breached a purchase agreement.
- Gerard Butler entered negotiations to star in Afterburn in November 2010, with Antoine Fuqua in talks to direct; Fuqua then left to direct Butler in Olympus Has Fallen, and Tommy Wirkola was announced as director in April 2012.
