Plot summary
Mary Hussain and her husband Ahmed return home one night, and Ahmed dies unexpectedly. After the funeral, going through his wallet, Mary finds a photograph of a woman named Genevieve, whom she has never heard of, and messages on his phone in which the two arrange to meet. Mary crosses the English Channel to Calais to find her. There Genevieve assumes she is a cleaning lady and lets her into the house she shares with her son Solomon; the two of them are preparing to move away and have no idea that Ahmed has died. Mary keeps her identity to herself and takes the work, hoping to learn more.
