Plot summary
Rumors spread that Maetel will take the throne of the Machine Empire, the power that holds more and more of the galaxy. Tetsuro, fifteen years old, fights with the resistance on Earth, which has become a battlefield. A messenger brings him the news that the 999 will run again and that Maetel expects him to board. He reaches the train and leaves Earth. Maetel is not on it. A machine woman named Metalmena serves in the dining car in place of the waitress Claire, and a Ghost Train crosses the universe, almost colliding with the 999. The line carries Tetsuro toward La Metal, the world where Promethium and Maetel were born, where he joins the resistance and befriends Meowdar, a cat-like boy.
