Plot summary
In Japan, the Sicilian martial artist Nicolo "Nico" Toscani is recruited by the CIA agent Nelson Fox for Special Operations on the Vietnam-Cambodia border. In 1973 he watches the torturer Kurt Zagon interrogate prisoners, is disgusted, and leaves the agency for Chicago. Fifteen years later Nico is a narcotics detective, married to Sara and father to a baby, living in his mother's house, working alongside his partner Delores 'Jacks' Jackson and his friend Detective Lukich. Investigating a drug ring, the pair arrest the dealer Tony Salvano's crew and find the plastic explosive C4 instead of narcotics. Federal agents release the arrested men and forbid the detectives from continuing. Nico keeps at it and is suspended from the force.
