Plot summary
Queen Ma'at rules the kingdom of Abelar, and her realm comes under attack when treasure seekers break into the tomb of Xia. Tanis, her half-sister, travels to Douras, an outlaw city, to search out her real father and bring him home to defend the kingdom. In Douras, Tanis meets her half-brother Aedan and asks for his aid. The two of them track down two more half-sisters, Malia and Rajan, and Rajan's daughter Alana. Tanis's father is also the father of Kara, a servant girl whose mother is Xia. The half-siblings and Alana band together, and their plan is to thwart Xia.
