Plot summary
Phil Barber has sold his computer company so that he can be with his son Chris more often. Chris is largely indifferent about the decision and is more concerned about his crush on Frannie, a schoolmate who has hired him to tutor her. Susan is a single mother who works as a caterer, struggling to make ends meet while raising Tina and Trent. Duffy is a cat who can speak to humans, though he can talk to any one person only once. Duffy comes across both families, each led by a single parent, and speaks with them in turn, offering advice about their lives and their worries.
