Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Producer Yves Marmion at UGC sent actor Michel Blanc Mark Haddon's novel hoping Blanc would direct, but Blanc turned the job down because of similarities to his own film Summer Things and instead wrote five versions of the screenplay, which Alfred Lot revised into the shooting script.
- Director Alfred Lot shot the film in CinemaScope for a "chic and elegant" feel befitting the upper-middle-class family, and dropped his plan for more hand-held camera work in favour of lots of dolly shots that he felt fitted the spirit of the film.
