Plot summary
Duncan, the heir to the throne of the European kingdom of Balemont, faces a Christmas Day wedding arranged by his parents to a woman he has not met. A week beforehand he slips out of the country, travels to the small American town of East Aurora and gives his name as David. There he stops for a meal at a diner and collides with Emma, who owns and runs the place. Emma has just broken up with Todd, and she looks after her teenage sister, Alice, since their parents died at Christmas, and she no longer keeps the holiday. Todd, a car salesman, is still interested in Emma.
