Mark Lindsay Chapman
Biography
Mark Lindsay Chapman is an English actor, born in London in 1954, who trained at the Guildford School of Acting in ballet, speech, drama and fencing. He became known for his role as Dr. Anton Arcane in the USA Network series Swamp Thing from 1990 to 1993, and his other television work includes Max Headroom, Dallas, Baywatch and Charmed. On film he played Chief Officer Henry Tingle Wilde in Titanic (1997) and John Lennon in Chapter 27 (2007). A 1987 internal memo at Paramount revealed that he was once in the running to play Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation. In 1985 his name being close to that of Mark David Chapman stopped him from playing Lennon in the NBC film John and Yoko: A Love Story, even though Yoko Ono had approved his audition before she learned his full name. The part went to Mark McGann.

A role that slipped away
Chapman lost the role of John Lennon in the 1985 NBC film John and Yoko: A Love Story because his name resembled that of Lennon's murderer, Mark David Chapman. Yoko Ono had approved his casting before discovering his full name and then withdrew it, calling it bad karma.
