Plot summary
Scarlett Betnner is babysitting her younger brother Gus when he disappears. Their father, Chris, keeps his head and cooperates fully with the police. Nora, the boy's mother, grows frantic, and she takes Scarlett's word that the family's neighbors had a hand in it: widow Iris Durand and her son Seth, a classmate of Scarlett's. Detective Coyle brings Seth in for questioning and then has to release him. When Nora goes after the Durands herself, Coyle steps in to stop her. With the person she blames walking free, Nora and Scarlett decide that they will have to handle the matter themselves.
