Plot summary
Alan Clay is sent to Saudi Arabia to sell a holographic teleconferencing system to the King. He is haunted by his old job at the Schwinn Bicycle Company, where he oversaw outsourcing to China and hundreds of layoffs, and by a messy, costly divorce that leaves him unable to pay for his daughter's college. Jet lag makes him miss the shuttle, so he hires a driver, Yousef, to take him to the King's unfinished desert city. Neither the King nor his contact, Karim Al-Ahmad, is present, and his team is placed in a tent with no food or working internet.
