Plot summary
At the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin looks back over his long life and over the friendship he shared with George Whitefield, a preacher who came to Philadelphia to speak. Franklin was astonished at how far the man's voice could carry when he preached. Whitefield partnered with Franklin to publish many of his sermons, and the two became friends as well as partners in that work. The friendship lasted across the years of the Great Awakening religious movement, and Whitefield's preaching left its mark on those who heard him. Franklin was a deist, and on the divinity of Christ he and Whitefield did not agree.
