Plot summary
LeBron James, Dru Joyce III, Willie McGee and Sian Cotton have been teammates on the Shooting Stars since they were ten, with Dru's father as their coach. The four boys call themselves the Fab Four. When middle school ends, Dru learns that Buchtel, the local high school, will not let him play varsity because of his height. Rather than split up, Dru approaches St. Vincent's, a private Catholic school, to persuade Coach Dambrot, who has coached in the NCAA, to take them all. He shows off his shooting, then promises Dambrot a state championship. After a few months of classes come tryouts, and all four endure the four-hour session.
