Plot summary
Ariel Morgan returns to college after her father's death and meets Ben Woods there. Ben and his father, Adam, drive her home the following weekend, and Ariel mentions that her mother, Dana, plans to join a grief group. Adam appears at that group and tells Dana his wife died eight months ago. He starts bringing coffee, breakfast and flowers to the house, and he persuades Dana to have dinner with him instead of attending a meeting. Ariel drinks one of his coffees and feels sick, so she asks Dana to drive her back to college. Dana wakes in her own bed the next morning, and Adam arrives with a homemade breakfast that Ariel's uncle Cameron eats.
