Plot summary

Michael Vaughn works as a medium, touring the country to promote his book, and his girlfriend Chelsea sits in the audience as a plant for his tricks. The dishonesty has worn down his elderly parents, Sam and Joyce, and Chelsea herself. On his way to a symposium in Tucson, Vaughn is knocked out and taken by Nathan, who had attended an earlier show but held back from a reading. Tied to a chair, Vaughn hears that Nathan killed a man named James Bishop in a mugging and wants the dead man reached through Vaughn's act. Nathan also wants a meeting between Vaughn and Bishop's daughter Stacy, who has been in the public eye since her father disappeared twenty years earlier.
