Plot summary
Amelia, wife of the Geneva businessman Philip Emmenthal, has died. Philip and his son Storey then install a private harem in the family residence. The notion comes partly from a screening of Federico Fellini's 8 1/2 and partly from an occasion when Storey, who manages pachinko palaces in Kyoto, takes in a woman, Simato, against her gambling debts. Eight and a half women sign one-year contracts, and three of them arrive from Kyoto. Each has a distinct trait: one is a nun, one a child bearer, one a gambler, one a maid, one a student of Kabuki, and one a horsewoman with a pet pig.
